How to get to Patmos Island, Greece
Why is Patmos so unique? Because there is not airport in the island!
There are several hydrofoils, catamarans and ferries that connect Patmos Island during the day with the islands of Samos, Rhodes and Kos. These islands all have international airports. Generally speaking the yearly schedules are as follows:
Hydrofoil & Catamaran services between Patmos, Kos, Samos Islands:
Samos-Patmos: Every day at 08:00, it takes 60 minutes and costs roughly 15 euros each way.
Patmos-Samos: Every day at 14:00, it takes 60 minutes and costs roughly 15 euros each way.
Kos-Patmos: Every day at 08:00, 10:00 14:00. This service is available both with catamaran and hydrofoil which takes approximately 80 minutes and costs roughly 17 euros.
Patmos-Kos: Everyday at 09:00 and 14:00.
If you fly into Athens International Airport, the easiest connection is a flight to Kos Island and then catching the Hydrofoil or Catamaran to Patmos Island.
Alternately, you can also reach Patmos Island from Piraeus, via the luxurious
Blue Star or GA Ferries. Ferries from Piraeus to Patmos leave daily. The Blue Star Ferry takes approximately 6 1/2 hours, and costs about 30 euros per person (without cabin) but is a very scenic and comfortable journey. At the moment, the lavish Blue Star 2 leaves Piraeus every Wednesday at 19:00 and every Saturday at 23:00.
If you need a cabin, and choose to arrive using the Blue Star Ferries transport, we can arrange to have your tickets ready for your pickup at the ticket counter in the harbour directly outside the ship. If you are not requiring a cabin than you are free to purchase your own tickets directly at the same ticket counter at the time of your arrival.
GA Ferries is a bit slower, but operates with the Ferry Rodanthi which leaves Piraeus every day at 18:00 except Wednesdays and Saturdays. All ferries leave Patmos around 23:00 and they arrive Piraeus the next morning. This is an overnight trip and you must have a cabin.
It is very convenient though, if you have a flight from Athens to your destination sometimes after 12:00 noon, or you wish to spent a day or so in Athens.
